RENDER is a tri-annual retreat held in the mission:

To support and encourage English-speaking Asian-Americans in the pursuit of vocational ministry and cast a vision for ministry in the local church.

RENDER is sponsored by Partnership of Asian American Churches in Texas (PAACT), which is a fellowship of evangelical churches whose vision is to assist the local church in advancing ministries among English-speaking Asians.

The name RENDER is taken from Psalm 116:12, “What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me?”  To Render means to give or make available; to give what is due or owed; to give in return or retribution; to surrender or relinquish.

This year's Render will take place on January 2-5, 2008 at the Trinity Pines Conference Center.

“All on the Altar” was chosen as the theme to show our commitment and dedication to the Lord for all that He has done for us.  Because of His sacrifice, we have been redeemed.  In response to His love for us, we are to offer our all on the altar of sacrifice.

“… I insist on paying you for it.  I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing…” -2 Samuel 24:24b

Steve Quen’s Biography

Steve Quen grew up in the Bay Area and came to know Christ in high school at Bay Area Chinese Bible Church (BACBC).  After graduating from UC Berkeley in 1976 in engineering, he worked as a software engineer for 11 years.  He felt God’s calling and God confirmed the call when he was asked to come on to the church staff in 1988.  He has served 9 years as assistant pastor and the past 10 years as senior pastor.  He has received his seminary training at Liberty Seminary.

BACBC is a tri-lingual church, which started with English only, added Cantonese and most recently added Mandarin to reach the mainlanders.  His church is 60% English-speaking (including children), 35% Cantonese-speaking, and 5% Mandarin-speaking.  BACBC planted a church in 2006, where they utilize video venue approach for the messages.

The church has also gone through many challenges.  In 1994, the former senior pastor, who served 26 years, was dismissed for misconduct and a group of members left the church.  After Pastor Steve became the senior pastor, he worked hard in bringing healing to the church as well as making changes to the church from a separatist hyper-fundamentalist church to an evangelical purpose-driven model.  These changes caused tension and another large group left the church.  With Pastor Steve’s bold visionary leadership, the church has been growing and able to meet the cultural changes in the twenty-first century.

Pastor Steve has the gift of leadership, administration and teaching.  He has a passion for evangelism and discipleship.  Pastor Steve is married to Esther for 28 years and they have three young adult children.  Steve enjoys running, where he has ran 3 half-marathons and one marathon.  He also loves to play ping-pong, chess, and reading.
